mothball: (01:00:41) Does Google have an app store for Android?
sarcast: (05:10:56) sure, but it's a mess. it's hard to find good apps because it's only accessible on the phone. you can't explore or see screen shots. so I haven't been able to buy anything cool.
mothball: (07:38:38) how does it work?
mothball: (07:38:47) Do you have to pay to get your apps listed in the store?
sarcast: (15:05:34) of course.
sarcast: (15:05:45) Google is in the biz to make money.
mothball: (17:02:40) What's its rate . . . compared to Apple's rate?
sarcast: (17:04:45) rate?
Tue, 03 Nov 2009 00:00:07 +0000
mothball: (04:19:48) like Apple charges $99 per year plus 33%
mothball: (04:20:24) what does google charge?
sarcast: (04:28:24) I think google does the same.
sarcast: (04:28:38) or similar.
mothball: (18:23:01) could you find out the exact rate?
sarcast: (18:27:05) well, I know they charge 30% per app. that's before what Google and the carrier asks before you can develop for android. with more app stores, it's hard to tell. it'll vary from carrier to carrier.
mothball: (19:16:11) What does that mean?
sarcast: (19:58:31) that means VW can ask for another 10% and sprint ask for 20% more. right now, T-Mobile isn't asking for it because it's allow Google's native store to run. but everyone's creating their own stores.
mothball: (20:51:59) oh ok.
sarcast: (21:01:32) the thing for android is that I'm afraid Google only careds about people using its services.
sarcast: (21:01:57) right now, there is already signs of fragmentation.
sarcast: (21:02:22) not only are the carriers doing their own app stores, so is motorola, qualcomm, ht,c, samsung, sony...
sarcast: (21:02:55) some already have said public, though quietly, that certain apps written for their devices probably wont work on other devices.
sarcast: (21:03:35) google promised that would never happen but I hope they're true to their word.
mothball: (22:50:57) I see.
mothball: (22:51:04) interesting.

sarcast: (01:49:56) yup. but there was a report today that Android was killing off MW's marketshare.
sarcast: (01:50:38) Android is likely going to dominate so long as Google does it right.
mothball: (17:45:31) I think it's too early to tell. Who ever wrote that has no fundalmental understanding of the current technology state.
mothball: (17:45:56) I like to see Google succeed with Android.
mothball: (17:46:05) But it killing off MW is unlikely.
mothball: (17:46:39) For you and those that don't know, Windows Mobile is the 6th generation of Windows CE.
mothball: (17:46:58) People had said Windows CE would have died at 1.0 or 2.0, back in the days as well.
mothball: (17:47:48) Not only did Windows CE survive, it actually flourished, depite the criticism.
mothball: (17:47:59) Back then, Java was said to be the killer app.
mothball: (17:48:15) Chances is good that both WM and Android will survive just fine.
mothball: (17:48:40) Even Palm is "surviving" despite its aged technology.
mothball: (17:48:53) It's as you said "fragmentation".
sarcast: (18:11:28) actually WM isn't dying. but it hasn't gone anywhere. I'm hoping with WM7 and Zune integration, it'll finally put up a little fight against Android and iPhone. Right now, survey shows that WM folks are going to RIM and Android.
mothball: (18:57:26) the survey is focused on only one demographic.
mothball: (18:58:13) face it, the survey say that year after year. If the survey had been true, then Windows CE would have died long ago.
mothball: (18:58:45) Put it another way you can understand, show me one year where the survey says that people are going to WM . . .
sarcast: (18:59:47) survey isn't saying WM will die. only that it's losing shares. which it has.
sarcast: (20:14:11) but again, wm 6 is like 5 years old or something. MS need to bring out wm7. then the interests should rise again.
mothball: (20:23:04) that is my point. Every year there is a report of it losing shares. if they were true, it would have died by now after it lost all the shares.
mothball: (20:23:47) WM7 is already out.
sarcast: (20:24:45) where? really?
sarcast: (20:25:09) you have a link? last I heard, it's not out until middle of 2010 or later.

mothball: (09:18:16) Sorry, I was thinking of Windows Mobile 6.5
sarcast: (12:13:34) regardless, wm should be awesome.
sarcast: (12:13:42) wm 7 should be awesome.

mothball: (02:00:16) we'll see.
sarcast: (16:01:48) integration with xbox...definitely.
mothball: (19:11:07) huh?
mothball: (19:11:13) how would that work?
sarcast: (22:05:39) don't know...we'll see.
